Scottsdale-based Meritage Homes Corp. placed third on investment-firm Calvert Investments' updated list of the "greenest" publicly traded homebuilders, the Bethesda, Md.-based company said Tuesday.
Meritage Homes advanced five notches from 2008, when it was ranked No. 8 on Calvert's first green-homebuilders list.
Criteria for the rankings included each homebuilder's accuracy in assessing and reporting its environmental impact and the extent to which it includes energy-efficient products, processes and materials as standard features in its homes.
KB Home, based in Los Angeles, retained the top spot on Calvert's list from 2008.
Calvert Investments manages $14.5 billion in assets through a variety of what are known as "socially responsible" investment funds.
