Mezzanine Loans Return

High interest rates eroded desire for mezzanine loans during the lean years of the U.S. real estate credit crunch, but lower rates are returning and so are borrowers interested in using company stock to secure loans. Analysts say the market for mezzanine financing began climbing again in 2012 and now large investors in construction are looking at them as ways to bridge the gap between what the bank will finance and the total amount it takes to complete the project. Several types of entities currently offer mezzanine financing, from private equity firms and insurance companies to pension funds, depending on transaction yield.
